About the Role
We are seeking a talented lawyer with 2 to 4 years’ PQE to join our rapidly growing Brisbane Construction practice in a contentious/back-end role.
This role offers a rare opportunity to work directly with experienced partners on complex and high-value construction disputes, while also being given the space, responsibility and support to build your own practice and develop into a senior member of the team.
Our Construction team has a long-standing reputation as a market leader in the sector, advising major developers, contractors and government bodies across Australia. With the continued strength of the Queensland construction market, the team has a significant pipeline of work and is continuing to grow.
You will be exposed to a broad range of complex construction and regulatory litigation, including matters relating to:
- commercial and residential construction disputes, including statutory insurance claims and defect proceedings;
- regulatory and enforcement matters arising under building and licensing legislation;
- commercial building and development disputes involving contractors, developers and consultants; and
- insolvency, recovery and enforcement proceedings arising from construction and building matters.
You will work in a supportive and collaborative team, with direct access to partners who are committed to mentoring, developing your litigation skills and supporting your long-term progression.
This role is particularly suited to lawyers who want to take ownership of matters, build strong client relationships and position themselves for progression within a growing practice.
In this role you will:
- manage and progress litigation matters from commencement through to resolution with partner support;
- draft pleadings, affidavits, submissions and other court documents;
- prepare detailed legal advice and evidence;
- appear at directions hearings, interlocutory applications and trials;
- brief and work closely with leading counsel in defended litigation;
- assist in developing client relationships and contributing to the continued growth of the practice; and
- assist in building the practice through ongoing business development initiatives.
What we are looking for
- 2–4 years’ PAE in construction litigation or commercial litigation;
- strong drafting and analytical skills;
- an interest in developing a specialist construction disputes practice;
- confidence appearing in court or a strong desire to develop advocacy skills;
- a collaborative mindset and the ambition to grow within a high-performing team.
Why join us
- Direct mentoring from experienced construction partners.
- Genuine opportunities for progression as the team continues to expand.
- The opportunity to take ownership of matters and develop your own practice.
- Exposure to blue-chip and government clients on significant disputes.
- Access to market-leading training, learning and development programs.
- A supportive, high-performing and friendly team environment.
This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated litigation lawyer to accelerate their development in a leading construction practice while building a long-term career within a growing national and global firm.
