POSITION SUMMARY

 

Our Calgary office is currently seeking a Litigation Paralegal to join our Legal Resource Services Department providing assistance to our Litigation & Dispute Resolution and Employment & Labour groups. The Paralegal will offer a blend of skills and experience providing litigation and practice support within a team where collegiality and collaboration are key elements of how we work at Dentons. The position will require a confident and reliable individual to manage multiple tasks and changing priorities. The successful applicant must be team-orientated and accustomed to working as a team with other paralegals and legal assistants.

 

This is a fantastic opportunity for an intermediate Paralegal with exceptional eDiscovery skills or a senior Paralegal who is interested in joining an exceptional team.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • Assisting lawyers with all aspects of document management including, collection, processing, review for relevance and privilege and production processes
  • Using litigation support and e-discovery software (Relativity) to support legal work
  • Preparing document productions and Affidavits of Records
  • Reviewing, summarizing, and organizing documents for discoveries and trial
  • Preparing chronologies and summaries of key documentary evidence for use in questioning on discovery and trial
  • Effectively manage e-discovery databases and handle electronic evidence
  • Carry out e-discovery project management, including coordination among team members, clients, opposing counsel and external vendors
  • Preparing for questionings, applications, arbitrations and trials, including assembling affidavits and court records
  • Drafting pleadings, litigation hold documentation, undertaking responses, and bill of costs.

 

REQUIREMENTS

 

Skills and Competencies

 

  • Ability to work under pressure and tight deadlines
  • Strong legal analysis and critical thinking skills
  • Detail-oriented and have excellent organizational and time-management skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively with lawyers, legal assistants, and paraprofessionals
  • Ability to prioritize high volume of tasks and competing priorities
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.

 

Education and Experience

 

  • 7+ years of experience providing support in civil litigation matters
  • 2+ years of experience using e-discovery software with a strong understanding of both e-discovery software and litigation processes
  • Strong technical proficiency in using e-discovery software (Relativity preferred) to manage e-discovery projects with adherence to best practice
  • Experience with complex, document-intensive matters
  • Technological proficiency in programs such as MS Word, MS Excel, Outlook, and time tracking software
  • Practical knowledge of the Alberta Rules of Court and key limitation timelines.

This role is a temporary replacement role.

 

The target salary range for this position is $70,000 – $80,000, commensurate with the successful candidate’s skills, experience, and qualifications.
