POSITION SUMMARY
The Senior Manager, Profile and Client Development, will play a crucial role in supporting national and local initiatives for select practice groups. This position requires a strategic thinker with strong leadership skills and a deep understanding of the legal industry. The successful candidate will work closely with practice and sector group leaders, lawyers, Office Managing Partners, and the priority initiatives, communications, proposals and digital teams to develop and execute client development and marketing strategies that enhance the firm’s visibility and drive business growth.
With a personal passion for growth and marketing and business development, the successful candidate is accomplished in developing and executing activities to raise profile and grow business; they will be highly skilled in the development and execution of programs, including developing supporting materials and presenting new concepts and ideas to support the roll-out of new initiatives. This is a hands on role in a face-paced and high-pressure environment. It is important to understand the complexities of a matrixed organization and the relationship-based nature of how we grow our business.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead and mentor a team of six professionals, supporting a portfolio of select national practice and sector groups including Litigation, Energy, Real Estate, Employment, Privacy (portfolio subject to change), along with the Calgary and Edmonton Offices
- Direct and oversee work product produced by team members to provide the highest quality finished product to lawyers and team members, while guiding team members on how to enhance skills
- Monitoring trends in local markets/industries and identifying innovative products/services that can be promoted through strategic BD campaigns
- Advise and direct strategic regional bids (including resourcing, management and best practice), facilitate debriefing meetings and advise on follow-up actions
- Participate in the development and implementation of strategic plans and budgets
- Establish best practices with respect to new business generation, while working collaboratively with various teams, including the Profile and Client Development team, and lawyers
- Develop and implement materials to support best practices in client development including training materials and programs
- Report on key initiatives, including creating compelling presentations to communicate progress and results to stakeholders
- Oversee and participate in the development of compelling directory nominations for the groups contained within the portfolio to bolster our firm and individual rankings
- Support the profile-building efforts of the assigned practice and sector groups through social media training, award nominations, media opportunities and conference speaking opportunities
- Support the use of the tools and technology available through acting as a champion and encouraging lawyers and assistants to use the CRM and other tools available
- Working with Business Intelligence group to develop required reporting to further business development and client growth efforts.
- Support for other key initiatives within the Client Development Team
REQUIREMENTS
- Post-secondary degree in Business, Marketing, or related discipline;
- JDs encouraged to apply
- 7+ years of experience in marketing, business development, experience working in a professional services environment preferred;
- Creative, enthusiastic and results-driven team-player who can work collaboratively with local and national multidisciplinary teams;
- Self-motivated and proactive, as well as independent and capable of working with minimum supervision;
- Superior organizational and project management skills—ability to multi-task; prioritize and organize deliverables; work under pressure; and work with multifaceted, complex projects;
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with an ability to effectively communicate with external contacts and individuals at all levels of the organization;
- Highly professional approach at all times;
- Ability to manage problems and situations that are constantly changing while using considerable judgement and analysis to determine effective solutions;
- Recognition of the significant impact that decisions have on the organization’s public image, internal operations, services or programs and corporate objectives;
- Ability to train and provide guidance to others within the work unit;
- Must be proficient working with the entire Microsoft Office Suite, including above average PowerPoint skills; and
- Demonstrated commitment to privacy and ethical conduct.

This is a coverage role. The target salary range for this position is $130,000 - $140,000, commensurate with the successful candidate’s skills, experience, and qualifications. Dentons is committed to equitable and competitive compensation. This target range falls within our internal salary ranges, which are based on comparable roles in the external market.
