ROLE
Dentons is seeking a dynamic and detailed-oriented Strategic Initiatives and Communications Specialist to join our National Operations team. This role is pivotal in supporting our internal leadership reporting and internal communications functions. The ideal candidate will have exceptional writing and editing skills, advanced PowerPoint skills, a keen eye for detail and the ability to contribute to managing and streamlining operational processes across the Firm.
As an experienced team player, you will work closely with the National Operations and Internal Communications teams and cross-functionally with business services professionals across the Firm. You will provide key organizational, administrative and strategic support to:
- our National Operations team in supporting key strategic projects and the execution of key Firm processes, which includes providing high quality, proactive and value-added support to the Firm’s internal leadership reporting process; and,
- our Internal Communications team in supporting the Firm’s overall internal communications function and key internal communications channels (i.e. intranet and national internal newsletter, among others).
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Prepare and edit high-quality written materials for Firmwide communication channels, leadership meetings and regular reporting process to partnership and senior leadership. Materials may include the monthly newsletter, intranet news articles, reports, presentations and pre-read materials.
- Provide administrative support for senior leadership meetings including: leadership meetings and communications calendar, preparing agendas, transcribing meeting minutes, executing action steps, and coordinating meeting and post-meeting requirements.
- Provide administrative support for the internal communication calendar, the monthly newsletter, the intranet portal, and reporting on communication activities to the business and leadership.
- Provide critical daily administrative support to ongoing or new initiatives and key firm processes in a collaborative and integrated manner, with other National Operations team members and business services professionals, all while demonstrating poise, tact and diplomacy.
- Support the internal communications team to collaborate on Firmwide projects and initiatives as it intersects with external communications and public relations.
- Maintain and monitor project plans, project schedules, budgets and expenditures.
- Perform other tasks or duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS
- Two (2) to three (3) years of experience in administrative and operational support, internal communications or a similar role. Experience in a law firm or professional services environment is considered an asset.
- Post-secondary degree or diploma in communications, marketing or business administration and/or equivalent combination of education/work experience.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with an ability to effectively communicate with individuals at all levels of the organization and present information in an impactful and visual manner, and full command of the English language, including grammar, punctuation and spelling.
- Strong attention to detail, drafting/writing, copy-editing and proof-reading and critical thinking skills, with ability to anticipate concerns or issues proactively.
- Ability to manage confidential and/or sensitive information, demonstrating adherence to and a commitment to privacy and ethical conduct.
- Superior organizational and project management skills—ability to multi-task; prioritize and organize deliverables; balance competing priorities to meet deadlines, work under pressure; and work with multifaceted, complex projects in a dynamic, fast-paced and client-focused environment.
- Professional, self-motivated, creative, enthusiastic and results-driven team-player who can work independently with little instruction or supervision and/or collaboratively with local, national, and global multidisciplinary teams, with strong emotional intelligence.
- Basic business and/or financial acumen considered an asset.
- Bilingualism (English/French) an asset, but not required.
- Strong competency in Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint, and SharePoint.
