North America IT Training Manager

Dentons US LLP is currently recruiting for a North America IT Training Manager.  This position will manage and execute IT training operations for the North American region that include planning, design, development, documentation, delivery, communications and evaluation.  The IT Training Manager will have overall responsibility for the prioritization and successful delivery of IT training projects resulting from technology changes of all scope and scale as well as work with the Firm’s administrative support groups, practice areas and individual attorneys to identify new, technology-oriented training services and participate in the marketing of such services within the Firm, to existing clients, and to prospective clients.

 

Responsibilities

  • Work with key stakeholders in both US and Canada to understand change impact of technology projects to design and implement an effective change management program aimed at supporting the overall business objectives sought by the project.
  • Assist in the setting and documenting of technology training strategy and the firm’s technology training roadmap, working closely with user constituencies, direct reports and the Director.
  • Keep abreast of IT training development and delivery trends and new technologies, with a specific focus on technology trends affecting law-firm automation.
  • Evaluate and recommend new IT training and productivity applications relevant to firm automation and business objectives.
  • Develop and prioritize the Firm’s IT training roadmap, working closely with user constituencies, direct reports and the Director of Applications. 
  • Lead, set and manage ongoing IT training requirements, analysis, selection, design, development, documentation, training, testing  and support methodologies, processes, procedures and best practices to improve quality and delivery.
  • Work with Director to define and implement a continual set of IT benchmarks to be used to measure IT training ongoing operational performance.
  • Identify systemic barriers to change internally or in client/customer organization.
  • Initiate actions and alternatives to avoid potential problem situations before they occur and /or increase the probability of desired outcomes.
  • Support and manage overall IT training project methodology and best practice guidelines relating to training delivery in concert with firm and Dentons information systems standards.
  • Adhere to the department’s project implementation model for all IT training-related projects, including all related processes: project overview, milestones and timelines; resource selection and alignment; implementation planning and execution.
  • Assess the impact of new technology on day-to-day operations and workflow and advise the firm on associated re-engineering efforts.
  • Estimate and manage annual IT training budget per the agreed upon plan.
  • Develop and enforce “best practices” and implementation models and other policies and procedures that ensure firmwide consistent standards.
  • Coordinate service provider assessment and selection efforts, including:  RFP preparation, proposal review, contract review and provider recommendations.
  • Manage the identification and quality assurance relating to key IT training administrative deliverables including, but not limited to, status reports, risk management memorandums, change control, issue management, etc.
  • Lead, hire, develop, motivate and manage IT training staff personnel.
  • Actively model desired work values and practices for others, including self-improvement, continuous learning and career development. Create team goals that are tied to the accomplishment of practice goals. Be an initiator of change.
  • Lead and ensure the engagement of appropriate constituencies for input into any initiative that impacts users.  Ensure that findings, needs and issues are documented and distributed back to user constituencies for accuracy and content.
  • Identify and communicate IT training and business risks to appropriate levels of IT and Dentons management and governance.
  • Develop written and oral communications that clearly explain technical concepts using non-technical language; effectively communicate to management and users technology and process pros/cons, IT strategies and trade-offs.
  • Support and execute proper processes and guidelines relating to the selection, implementation and management of automated training development, testing and other IT training applications and support tools to gain work efficiencies, consistent with firm standards.
  • Execute ongoing research and evaluation relating to IT training, e-learning, and other IT training related automation solutions.
  • Establish and maintain the appropriate IT training lab, development, documentation and testing environments required to properly test, pilot, and deploy new IT training solutions into the environment.
  • Act as a technology resource to the firm to identify industry trends, technology and change management issues.

 

Experience and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business or Computer Science Preferred
  • 8 years successfully managing high performance IT training development and delivery organizations.
  • 6 years successfully managing performance training design, development and delivery environments with at least 8 direct and indirect reports exclusive of contractors/ consultants in a 1000 user LAN/WAN environment.
  • 5 years designing and implementing change management programs and associated deliverables.
  • 5 years experience working with Microsoft server and desktop operating systems.
  • 3 years full team responsibility for defining and managing to financial budgets.
  • 3 years proven management experience.  Large law firm or professional services experience preferred.
  • 2 years hands-on project management experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and effectively with all levels of users.
  • Excellent client service skills.
  • Proven leadership skills and track record of achieving strong results.
  • Expert in developing, mentoring, and managing IT training personnel.
  • Understands firm and other relevant third party IT training applications both functionally and technically.
  • Expert in IT training delivery life cycle, methodologies, tools and practices.
  • Strong IT training architecture strategy, planning and design skills.
  • Strong organization skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills. Effective communicator; able to influence others outside the direct chain of command.

 

Salary Range - New York Only: $150,000 - $163,000
