Dentons US LLP is recruiting for a Senior Manager, Business Development (BD) for its litigation practice and insurance sector group. The individual in this position is expected to create and implement outside-the-box business development and marketing strategies to generate new client relationships, expand current client relationships, and enhance the brand recognition of these practices.
Responsibilities
- Work with partners and professionals to provide, create, prepare and coordinate sales proposals/pitches and responses to Requests for Proposals
- Develop and maintain in-depth knowledge of practice and industry expertise and client relationships to operate as a strategic advisor to department leadership, and litigation BD team members to grow Firm business through marketing and strategic initiatives highlighting the Firm’s work and offerings
- Develop an annual budget for the practice; monitor and track marketing and BD expenditures for expense management purposes; and review expense requests
- Conduct market analysis, industry and competitive intelligence research, and prepare reports to generate and support BD opportunities
- As the subject matter expert, generate content, create and maintain marketing materials, and work with the communications team to identify and leverage marketing and media relations opportunities
- Manage and mentor a team of BD professionals offering guidance and sharing your deep knowledge of BD activities to prepare them to advance in their careers
- Assist with the onboarding of new laterals, including the creation of biographies; work with the communications team on announcements
- Support the development, publishing and promotion of thought leadership
- Oversee the strategy and drafting of Chambers USA and other rankings and directories submissions
- Generate ideas for and work with the events team to execute seminars, webinars and other client events
- Develop high-level partnering relationships with industry associations and consultants to identify connections, speaking and conference presentation opportunities and sources of new business referrals
- Leverage marketing technology tools and other knowledge management resources to increase prospect identification and internal information sharing
- Other duties as may be assigned
Experience & Qualifications
- 10+ years of business development experience in a professional services industry, with preference given to law firm experience
- Minimum of five years’ supervisory/management experience required
- Knowledge of core business development principles including marketing, client-facing communications, internal communications, public relations, seminar/event planning, branding, market research, competitive intelligence, credentials and RFP response preparation
- Experience dealing with global marketing issues and sensitivities
- Highly motivated self-starter who is able to handle a variety of projects that require tight deadlines
- Proficient at making connections between people, issue-spotting, and possess a strong intellectual curiosity about the business of law
- Highly organized and possess strong creative abilities and excellent writing skills, as well as the ability to think strategically and analytically
- Able to work with higher levels of management in the firm and work well as part of a team
- Legal training is a plus but not a requirement
Salary
New York Only DOE: $190,000 - $220,000
Washington DC Only DOE: $175,000 - $210,000
Chicago Only DOE: $170,000 - $200,000
