pOSITION SUMMARY
Dentons is seeking a skilled Paralegal to join our Financial Services and Real Estate team in our Edmonton office. The successful candidate will have experience supporting both commercial financing matters and real estate transactions.
The role requires a polished, confident and reliable individual who has the ability to manage multiple tasks and adapt to changing priorities. The successful candidate will be organized, discreet, able to multitask and possess a high level of client-care with a confidential work approach.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Key responsibilities include:
- Handling commercial financing matters from beginning to end, including but not limited to:
- Reviewing initial instructions and identifying documentation requirements
- Conducting, reviewing and summarizing due diligence search results
- Drafting loan, security and ancillary financing documents
- Attending to registration matters for both real and personal property security interests
- Corresponding directly with our client and the debtor’s lawyer
- Reviewing signed documents for deficiencies
- Attending to the requisition and disbursement of funds
- Completing final reports and attending to post-closing matters that may arise
- Handling closings of real estate transactions, including but not limited to:
- Conducting, reviewing and summarizing titles and due diligence search results on parties
- Drafting closing documents, including statements of adjustment and trust letters
- Obtaining pay-out statements and pay-out information
- Attending to registrations of require instruments, or discharges of registered instruments
- Corresponding directly with our client and the counterparty’s lawyer
- Attending to the requisition and disbursement of funds
- Completing final reports and attending to post-closing matters that may arise, including tracking and attending to discharge lawyer’s undertakings.
- Responding to daily inquiries from lawyers, legal assistants and clients
- Other duties as assigned
REQUIREMENTS
The ideal candidate must have the following background, skills and experience:
- Graduate of an accredited legal assistant or paralegal program
- 5+ years’ experience as a paralegal in a Financial Services and/or Real Estate department of a law firm
- Results oriented and demonstrate exceptional time management, organizational and follow up skills
- Advanced computer skills; proficient with MS Word, Excel and Outlook
- Excellent research and analytical skills, good judgement, high level of accuracy and strong attention to detail
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Capacity to manage many files simultaneously and a proven ability to work under pressure of time, accuracy and constant interruptions
- Work independently as well as within a team environment
