POSITION SUMMARY

Are you passionate about transforming business intelligence and data integration? We are seeking an experienced, hands-on Power BI and Data Integration Developer to lead our organization’s BI initiatives. This role is responsible for the development and administration of Microsoft Power BI solutions, management of data pipelines, and ensuring data quality and governance across integrated sources. You will also play a vital role in supporting and training teams to maximize their use of Power BI and related tools. Candidates should hold or be in pursuit of Microsoft Fabric Data Engineer or Analytics certifications (DP-600/DP-700) and demonstrate proficiency with the Microsoft Graph API for data integration.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Power BI Development & Administration: Design, develop, and maintain Power BI dashboards and interactive reports to enable data-driven decision-making. Create and optimize data models, visualizations, and DAX calculations for insightful and performant reporting. Administer the Power BI environment, including workspaces, data gateways, and user access, following best practices for governance and security.
  • Data Integration & Management: Oversee all datasets and data pipelines required for BI solutions using Microsoft Fabric components (OneLake, Dataflows Gen2, Data Factory pipelines, Lakehouse/Warehouse). Integrate data from multiple sources—databases, cloud services, enterprise APIs, and files—ensuring consistent ETL/ELT processes for analysis. Monitor and optimize data refresh schedules and troubleshoot dataflows for reliability.
  • Data Modeling & Quality Assurance: Develop robust semantic data models (star schemas, relationships, calculation groups) for reusability and single-source-of-truth reporting. Implement data validation, error checks, and row-level security (RLS) to ensure data accuracy, privacy, and integrity. Establish and enforce data governance standards and documentation for BI datasets and integrations.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration & Training: Collaborate with business stakeholders to gather requirements and translate business needs into BI solutions. Conduct workshops and maintain ongoing communication with non-technical teams. Provide user training and support to maximize Power BI adoption and champion a data-driven culture.
  • Performance Optimization: Optimize BI solutions for performance and scalability. Tune data models and SQL queries for faster load times and query responses. Leverage DirectQuery/Import vs. Direct Lake modes appropriately and implement features to enhance report usability and performance.
  • Emerging Technologies & Strategy: Stay current with Microsoft BI and data integration advancements. Evaluate and recommend new tools (Azure Synapse, Databricks, AI integrations) to continuously improve BI infrastructure. Utilize the Microsoft Graph API to integrate enterprise data from Microsoft 365 and Azure AD, and contribute to the organization’s overall data strategy and analytics roadmap.

QUALIFICATIONS

  •  Education & Experience: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field. 3-5+ years of hands-on experience in business intelligence development and data integration, including substantial Power BI experience in a production environment. Experience with Microsoft Fabric (lakehouses, data pipelines, or Fabric-enabled Power BI datasets) required.
  • Technical Skills: Advanced Power BI (Desktop and Service), DAX, Power Query, and data modeling. Strong SQL (T-SQL) skills for querying and transforming large datasets. Familiarity with Microsoft Graph API, RESTful web service integrations (JSON, REST APIs), and Azure data platforms (Data Factory, Synapse, SQL Database, Data Lake Storage). Experience with implementing data security (RLS/OLS).
  • Certifications: Microsoft Power BI and Fabric certifications (e.g., PL-300, DP-600/DP-700) are highly valued. Microsoft Graph or Power Platform training is a plus.
  • Analytical & Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to analyze complex data from multiple sources and design effective analytics solutions. Knowledge of data warehousing principles and troubleshooting experience in BI systems.
  • Soft Skills: Excellent communication and collaboration skills. Proven ability to work with cross-functional teams and deliver solutions that meet business needs. Experience in training or coaching team members or end-users on BI tools and data literacy. Proactive, self-driven, and able to manage multiple projects and deadlines.

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS (NICE-TO-HAVE)

  • Programming & Scripting: Experience with Python or other scripting languages for data automation, and familiarity with PowerShell or C# for Microsoft Graph API or Power BI administration.
  • Alternate BI/Analytics Tools: Experience with Tableau, Qlik, Databricks, or Snowflake is an asset.
  • Azure and Cloud Ecosystem: Deep understanding of the Azure ecosystem (Data Lake, Synapse, Machine Learning) and integration with Power BI and Fabric. Familiarity with Apache Spark or Databricks for data processing and CI/CD tools for BI deployments.
  • Domain Knowledge: Experience in legal or professional services data environments is a plus.

ADDITIONAL TOOLS & TECHNOLOGIES

  • SQL and Databases: Mastery of SQL and experience with relational databases (SQL Server, Azure SQL Database). Knowledge of data warehousing solutions (Azure Synapse, SQL Server Analysis Services).
  • Azure and Cloud Services: Familiarity with Azure Data Factory, Synapse, Databricks, and Data Lake Storage (OneLake).
  • Programming/Scripting Languages: Proficiency in Python (for data manipulation and Graph API integrations) and PowerShell (for Power BI automation).
  • Power Platform: Experience with Power Apps and Power Automate to complement Power BI dashboards and automate workflows.
  • Other BI/Analytics Tools: Awareness of Tableau, Qlik, R, and Excel Power Query/Pivot is beneficial.
  • By joining our team, you will lead the way in developing and managing sophisticated Power BI dashboards and data integrations, ensure knowledge transfer through team training and support, and help drive our organization’s adoption of the latest Microsoft data technologies for enhanced reporting and insight generation. If you’re ready to elevate our data-driven culture, we want to hear from you!
