The Department

 

The team's work is typically high profile, predominantly for large international clients (both private and public) across a range of sectors, including energy, natural resources and infrastructure, telecommunications, hospitality, sports and financial services. Those disputes cover commercial arbitration, commercial and corporate litigation, investment treaty arbitration and public international law. Our work is truly international, and we have a particularly strong reputation in the emerging markets, including Africa, the Middle East, Asia, Latin America and Eastern Europe.  

 

The Role

 

We are looking for an ambitious associate in the 3-7 year PQE band who can demonstrate their interest in and passion for both commercial litigation and international commercial and investment treaty arbitration. The successful candidate will be expected to work on a significant existing book of work across a range of sectors and within various teams as required. 


The successful candidate will have excellent drafting and communication skills. They will be technically excellent as well as commercially astute, with an enthusiasm for business development initiatives. They will be a team player excited by the prospects of working for Dentons, as the world's largest law firm with an extensive international platform. Advanced degrees in relevant subjects and language skills will be of additional interest. 

 

Required experience, skills, and attributes

 

Technical Skills

 

Essential

  • Knowledge of arbitration, both in commercial disputes and public international law.
  • Experience of all of the major institutional arbitration rules, including ICC, LCIA, UNCITRAL and ICSID.
  • Ability to work with a degree of independence.
  • Exceptional legal research ability.
  • Exceptional drafting skills.
  • Exceptional communication skills.

 

Desirable

  • Experience of working with international clients in the energy sector.
  • Experience of preparing and participating in pitches to clients.
  • Higher rights of audience and other advocacy experience.
