Role

 

We're seeking a Conflicts Analyst /Conflicts Lawyer to support Senior Conflict lawyers, Senior Conflicts Officers, Team Leaders, Managers, and Global Head of Conflicts in ensuring effective compliance controls and procedures are in place, particularly those involving the avoidance of conflicts of interest and protection of confidential information, and to ensure compliance with applicable legislative requirements and management of risk. This role will work with and support the UK, Ireland and Middle East regions.

 

A Conflicts Analyst/Conflicts Lawyer should aim to become proficient with the following core compliance processes:

 

  • Conflict of Interest Checking Process.
  • Information Barrier and Document Security Processes.
  • Client Care and Dentons Engagement Terms.
  • Matter management, including matter opening and assessing compliance with Scottish and UK Law Society rules, Code and guidance.
  • Handles conflicts of interest matters.
  • Handles high volume conflict searches.
  • Handles low to medium complexity protection of confidential information issues.
  • Involved in leading commercial clearances across Dentons offices.
  • Reviews and adheres to Dentons' internal compliance policies and procedures.

 

Responsibilities

 

  • Handles medium conflicts of interest requests/checks.
  • Handles medium confidential information issues.
  • Matter management, including matter opening and assessing compliance with, Irish Scottish and UK Law Society Rules, Code and Guidance.
  • Involved in leading commercial clearances across Dentons offices.
  • Handles cross regional conflict checks.
  • Reviews share dealing and external appointment applications.
  • Review of relevant conflict flags.

 

Responsibilities cont.

 

  • Assisting with the management of the workflow.
  • Understand the Information Barrier and Document Security Processes.
  • Ad hoc searches carried outside the Request workflow.
  • Supporting Senior Conflict lawyers, Senior Conflict Officers, Team Leaders, Managers, and Global heads as required.
  • Assisting with Department Projects and Initiatives. 
  • Analyse Letters of Engagement for the purposes of conflict checking.
  • Adheres to Dentons’ internal compliance policies and procedures.
  • Other duties as may be assigned to fully meet the requirements of the position.

 

Experience, Skills & Knowledge

 

Technical Skills

 

  • Relevant professional qualification, e.g. International Compliance Association Diploma in Anti-Money Laundering or Compliance is desirable.
  • Relevant experience preferably acquired in an international law firm, although other professional services or financial services firms will be considered.
  • Prior experience analysing and resolving conflicts of interest and managing confidential information issues would be desirable.
  • An understanding of Elite and any conflict checking systems is desirable.
  • Able to analyse low to medium difficulty legal issues, producing accurate and reasoned opinions on a range of regulatory issues.
  • Able to critically review, update and amend firm policies and procedures in plain English.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Chapters 1, 2, 3, 4 & 5 of the Solicitors Code of Conduct and an ability to apply them in practice is desirable and in particular understand Chapters 3 and 4 in more detail.
  • Able to develop a knowledge and understanding of the following regulations:
    • Data Protection Act 1998 and equivalents;
    • EU Market Abuse Directive 2003/6/EC;
    • Solicitors' Accounts Chapters;
    • Parts of the Financial Services and Markets Act 2000 relevant to law firms.

  • Can demonstrate initiative and the ability to be proactive, while also being able to follow instructions and provide support to the UKME Conflicts Manager and EMEA Head of Conflicts.
  • Able to analyse and recognise the need for improvement to systems and suggest options for improvement to the UKME Conflicts Manager and EMEA Head of Conflicts.
  • Can carry out all responsibilities in a way which supports the practice’s values and promotes its equal opportunities and diversity principles.
  • Able to be an ambassador for Dentons, being professional in outlook and attitude.
  • Fluency in Mandarin – both written and oral, advantageous.
