The Role
Dentons is at an exciting time in its strategy and a major focus on marketing and business development activity is seen as crucial to its success. The Head of BD (Business Development) Service Lines and Geographies leads the firm’s business development activity across our key business units. Working closely with the Director of Clients & Markets as part of the senior leadership team of our busy function, this role is responsible for driving revenue growth, supporting client acquisition and retention, and ensuring the effective delivery of BD initiatives in alignment with the firm’s strategic priorities.
Responsibilities
Key Areas of Responsibility:
- Working with partner stakeholders and the business development team to set and implement BD strategies that help the firm’s overall objectives.
- Lead and manage the BD team supporting service lines and geographies, providing direction, coaching, and performance management to ensure our teams and clients are having the best interaction possible. Oversee the preparation of pitches, proposals, and client-facing materials to ensure high quality and consistency as appropriate.
- Monitor market trends, client needs, and competitor activity to inform BD planning and identify growth opportunities.
- Support the development and execution of key client programmes and strategic account management alongside the Head of Clients.
- Collaborate with the marketing, brand, and engagement teams to deliver integrated campaigns and initiatives.
- Track and report on BD activity, pipeline and outcomes to the Clients and Markets Director and other stakeholders.
- Manage relationships with external consultants and suppliers as required.
- Ensure best practice sharing and continuous improvement across all BD activities.
Key Skills and Experience:
- Substantial experience in a BD role within a professional services environment, preferably legal.
- Proven ability to develop and execute BD strategies across multiple service lines and/or geographies.
- Strong leadership and team management skills.
- Excellent communication, influencing, and stakeholder management abilities.
- Commercially focused, with strong analytical skills.
- Experience in preparing and delivering pitches and proposals.
- Degree or equivalent qualification in Business, Marketing, Law, or a related field.
