Intellectual Property Lawyer


Dentons has an exciting opportunity for an IP lawyer based in Melbourne with 2 to 3 years of PQE in IP, to join our rapidly growing Australian Intellectual Property and Technology practice. You will have the opportunity to work with national and international clients and colleagues on a complex and interesting range of matters spanning a wide range of industries and technologies. Dentons' IPT practice in Australia covers trade mark and patent prosecution and portfolio management, copyright and designs, domain names, IP litigation and dispute resolution, IP commercialisation and licensing, information technology, supply and distribution, franchising, procurement and privacy.

Much of our work has a significant international component. You will work collaboratively with leading IPT practitioners in a highly cohesive team. The practice is growing fast and you will have excellent career growth and development opportunities, including the potential to work internationally with colleagues in the Dentons family around the world.


In this role you will be focused on Australian and International trade mark matters including filing applications, prosecution, opposition proceedings, non-use actions and clearance searches. You will be involved in IP disputes including Federal Court confidential information/copyright/design/patent/trade mark litigation and oppositions before IP Australia.  You will advise on IP ownership, assignment and licensing issues. 


We are looking for a lawyer with the following capabilities and attributes: 


  • 2 to 3 years of PQE in IP;
  • Ability to build rapport with colleagues and clients;
  • High attention to detail;
  • Proactive;
  • Collaborative; 
  • Exceptional organisation skills; 
  • A Registered Trade Marks Attorney qualification would be highly regarded.
