The Role

 

The firm's Business Continuity Manager is responsible for the UKIME processes, procedures, decisions and activities to ensure that the firm can continue to function through an operational interruption.   You will be responsible for leading and managing all aspects of business continuity planning, risk assessment and crisis management. 


We are proud to be ISO22301 certificated and are committed to ensuring we maintain the certification and continually look to make improvements in our processes.  Your role will involve collaboration with key stakeholders and departments to ensure that our business continuity strategies are reviewed, remain valid and tested for robustness.

 

You will be expected to:

  • Maintain our Business Continuity Plans (BCP) tailored to the firm's specific needs and operational environment.
  • Regularly review and update the BCP to incorporate best practices and address emerging threats and risks.
  • Conduct risk assessments and analysis – identifying potential threats and vulnerabilities through business impact scenarios and providing actionable risk assessments reports to management for decision making purposes.
  • Maintain our Business Impact Analysis (BIAs) which will involve collaborating with key stakeholders and department heads while understanding the financial, operational and reputational consequences of disruptions on critical business functions.
  • Develop and deliver training programs to our Incident Management Teams (IMT) and our BC representatives about BC procedures and their role during disruption.
  • Compile a BC education programme by assessing training needs to ensure competencies are achieved.
  • Conduct regular exercises to our IMTs (Gold, Silver and Bronze) to test the effectiveness of the BCP, reviewing the efficiency and effectiveness of the exercise. Conducting a post-incident review alongside recommendations for future improvement.
  • Lead the region, alongside our Gold Incident Team, in time of crisis, providing expert guidance and support during emergency or crisis situations.
  • Working with our Procurement team to assess the BC plans of critical third party vendors and suppliers to mitigate associated risks.
  • Ensure the firm's practices align with all BC applicable compliance requirements and keep up to date with new legislation in relation to BC and disaster recovery.
  • Maintain a thorough and detailed knowledge of BC working practices and keep up to date with latest thinking.
  • Liaise with professional bodies and local authorities to maintain awareness and to foster good relationships.
  • Assist the Business Development team with BC elements of bids for new business and respond to client enquires about Dentons BC Capabilities.
  • Maintain, review, and update our ISO22301 compliant management system.

 

Required experience, skills, and attributes

 

  • Proven experience in a Business Continuity role preferably in a law firm or professional services setting. 
  • Proven experience in developing, implementing & testing comprehensive resilience strategies and disaster recovery plans.
  • Ability to research and produce management information and specialist reports.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities to identify potential risks and vulnerabilities and solutions.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with stakeholders at all levels of the organisation.
  • Understanding of risk management.
  • Ability to self-motivate.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Ability to use initiative.
  • Forward thinker.

 

Desired Qualifications

 

  • Certification in Business Continuity Management (CBCI, MBCI) would be an advantage.
  • Experience in ISO22301 management systems and/or other ISO standards eg 27001 (IT Security) or 31001 (Risk Management) preferred.
