We are looking for an experienced and motivated lawyer with at least 5 years PQE to join our team, which specialises in public inquiries. The role is within Dentons' Disputes Division, which is a large contentious group with team members in London, Milton Keynes and Scotland.

Dentons represents a range of leading public sector and corporate clients, including His Majesty's Government (HMG). We currently act on a number of large, high profile public inquiries. We now have an exciting opportunity for a senior lawyer to join the team and become a cornerstone of developing that practice.

The role would primarily focus on acting for clients in public inquiries, but there will also be the opportunity to undertake other complex work. The role will suit a lawyer with previous experience in acting as a solicitor to an inquiry. Experience of working within or for HMG is preferable.

We are interested to hear from candidates who, in addition to having strong public inquiries expertise, also have experience in another second practice area, such as litigation, regulatory, investigations or health & safety. There is the potential for the candidate to quickly progress within Dentons, as part of a rapidly growing team.

Responsibilities

  • Taking a senior role, in conjunction with the partners, in acting for clients on public inquiries, both in the capacity as a solicitor to the inquiry and for core participants.
  • Acting on other complex matters, to assist the wider firm.
  • Working in a team to win new instructions.
  • Supporting partners and other key personnel in building and maintaining client relationships, including working with the wider HMG relationship team at Dentons.

Required experience, skills, and attributes

  • English law qualified.
  • Significant experience in acting as a solicitor to the inquiry.
  • Other experience in acting on public inquiries.
  • Contentious experience gained within the public sector a benefit, but not essential.
  • Strong academic record.
  • Experience in leading teams a benefit, but not essential.

  • Takes responsibility for own work and can work independently.
  • Is dedicated to exceptional client service.
  • Focused on developing junior members of the team.
  • Excellent problem solving and decision making skills.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Demonstrates good judgment and resilience.
