Position Summary

 

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Profile & Client Development, the Manager, Profile & Client Development is a key member of the team, responsible for executing the growth, visibility and client engagement strategies at a national level of assigned practice and sector groups. This role combines strategic thinking with hands-on initiative execution, with the support of one direct report and a cross-functional team. Working closely with the Senior Manager, national practice leaders and cross-functional teams, the Manager contributes to go-to-market strategies, client relationship expansion, and high-impact campaigns that drive revenue. In addition to national responsibilities, the Manager will also support profile-raising and client development efforts in the Montreal market, working closely with regional stakeholders to advance visibility and business priorities. 

 

With a passion for growth and client development, the Manager will bring a successful track record in implementing and executing strategies to win new business in a professional services or similar industry, and understands the complexities of a matrixed environment and the relationship-based nature of our business.

 

Responsibilities

 

  1. Strategic Planning & Market Positioning
    • Oversee and facilitate the delivery of business planning for the Montreal office and assigned groups; execute action items for key initiatives, including research ideas and draft materials; track, follow up and present on group and lawyer initiatives to keep priorities moving forward.
    • Support the development and lead the execution of national business development plans for assigned groups, aligning efforts with firmwide strategy.
    • Contribute to the development of practice and sector project plans and deliver on owned accountabilities for assigned practice and sector groups.
    • Utilize internal firm data, external market intelligence, and industry trends to identify client and market growth opportunities and inform recommendations.
    • Drive business development and profile-raising efforts through research and analysis.
    • Support go-to-market planning, brand positioning, and messaging for new offerings, markets, or initiatives.
    • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of initiatives to improve ROI and recommend adjustments as needed.
    • Clearly communicate BD strategies and recommendations, adapting tone and level of detail based on audience.

 

  1. Client Development & Cross-Selling
    • Build and execute profile-raising strategies, client-focused initiatives, and thought leadership programs tailored to key audiences.
    • Understand and leverage firm experience and key client relationships to identify cross-selling opportunities and expand client engagements.
    • Partner with Client Team Leads on key account programs, facilitating collaboration, strategy execution, and lawyer engagement.
    • Support the enhancement of client lists for assigned practice and sector groups, working collaboratively with the CRM team.
    • Prepare and support the development of RFPs and proposals by working with partners on messaging and working with the proposal team on contributing client-specific insights, experience lists, and value-add recommendations.

 

  1. Initiative & Campaign Execution
    • Manage the execution of strategic initiatives and projects including tracking timelines, deliverables, responsibilities across stakeholders, and ROI.
    • Coordinate and deliver sector- and practice-specific webinars, podcasts, events, sponsorships, and continuing professional development (CPD) opportunities that are compelling and audience-appropriate.
    • Prepare and manage legal directory submissions for review and approval by accountable partners, ensuring alignment with positioning strategy and timely delivery.

 

  1. Practice Management & Support
    • Facilitate regular meetings for assigned practice and industry groups, including development of agendas and slides, and providing insights, updates, and strategic direction.
    • Manage and track approved budget for assigned practice groups.
    • Support onboarding of new partners and associates.

 

  1. Stakeholder Management & Collaboration
    • Act as a trusted advisor to lawyers, navigating diverse personalities and working styles to drive progress on BD goals.
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Business Intelligence, Communications, Creative, CRM, Digital, Events, Proposals and other Business Services to ensure integrated support and alignment with business priorities.
    • Provide direction and context when liaising with internal teams and offer coaching or mentorship to junior colleagues when appropriate.
    • Collaborate with other practice groups and BD colleagues to identify cross-selling opportunities and support firm-wide initiatives.

  3. Mentoring and developing team: Support the growth of more junior team members by offering guidance, sharing knowledge, and contributing to a positive, high-performing team culture.
  4. Demonstrating ownership and initiative: Operate with a high degree of autonomy, anticipating needs, surfacing risks or roadblocks early, and taking accountability for driving initiatives forward.

 

Requirements

 

  • Bilingual (French & English) mandatory.
  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in Marketing or Business, or equivalent experience.
  • 6+ years of marketing or business development experience, ideally in professional services.
  • Proven ability to lead BD strategies and campaigns, translating strategy into actionable plans aligned with business goals.
  • Strong project management and prioritization skills; able to manage complex initiatives and meet deadlines in a fast-paced, matrixed environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate across teams and stakeholder groups, adapting communication style as needed.
  • Effective communicator with excellent written and verbal skills; comfortable engaging with all levels of the organization and external contacts.
  • Strong business acumen; familiarity with corporate transactional and litigation terminology is an asset.
  • Innovative and data-driven mindset; able to identify opportunities, embrace learning, and apply digital tools and solutions.
  • Self-motivated, results-oriented, and detail-focused, with the ability to absorb and convey new concepts quickly.
  • Diplomatic and professional, with strong negotiation, persuasion, and relationship management abilities.
  • Client-focused, flexible, and resilient in responding to changing priorities.
