Clients & Markets Sector Lead (Venture Technology)

Dentons US LLP is currently recruiting for a talented, experienced professional to manage the business development and marketing initiatives for its US Venture Technology Group, a boutique team within the firm. This position is based in New York, and will collaborate with practice and sector team leaders to accelerate client engagement through the creation and delivery of disruptive strategies to generate new work, expand existing client relationships and enhance brand recognition. Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with partners and professionals in the US, and liaise with others globally, to identify, pursue, and engage with emerging growth companies and investors looking to grow, protect, operate, or finance their interests
  • Participate in the development of new strategic initiatives to get ahead of market trends through the leveraging of platform
  • Develop plans for business development and marketing initiatives that drive the group’s core strategic initiatives
  • Develop and manage corresponding budget in collaboration with relevant leadership
  • Manage existing and identify new industry partnerships across accelerators, university entrepreneurship and angel organizations and other GC and investor professional membership groups to continue to build brand presence and new business opportunities in the venture ecosystem
  • Create, prepare and coordinate distinctive proposals/pitches to differentiate Dentons and enable sales opportunities
  • Facilitate and analyze market, sector and competitive intelligence research data to drive business development opportunities, enhance prospect identification and promote internal information sharing
  • Work across key global regions to support and coordinate internal collaboration and external market engagement initiatives
  • Oversee branded campaigns to promote thought leadership via innovative social media strategies
  • Plan and manage events to achieve desired outcomes and promote brand preference
  • Manage responses to Requests for Proposals, including liaising with other team members on cross-practice initiatives, both in the US and globally
  • Assist with the onboarding and integration of new partners
  • Create and maintain marketing materials
  • Proactively report to league table companies, legal directories, and other priority publications to optimize market position; draft submissions for targeted rankings and industry awards
  • Manage client and prospect mailing lists for coordinated outreach targeting key industries and audiences
  • Gather, organize and manage experience and matters for the practice and related areas of service
  • Monitor, track and report on projects, outcomes, and ongoing activities based on the plans and budgets
  • Lead or assist other marketing and business development projects as needed
  • Other duties may be assigned to fully meet the requirements for this position

 

Experience & Qualifications:

  • 8+ years of business development in a technology-focused organization, with preference to experience from VC/PE
  • Strong professional presence, ability to take a leadership role in a fast paced environment working with a rapidly growing group, including managing expectations, prioritizing projects and dealing with ambiguity
  • Well-versed in developing creative, disruptive solutions targeting emerging growth founders, public and private technology investors, accelerators/incubators, and innovators
  • Experience with global technology marketing issues and sensitivities
  • Strong understanding of emerging growth/venture business environment in the US and globally
  • Highly motivated, organized, and nimble self-starter; able to manage multiple projects and deadlines
  • Proficient at issue-spotting, and a strong intellectual curiosity about the business of law
  • Excellent writing and analytical skills
  • Ability to work well at all levels within the organization, as well as with firm clients and industry partners
  • Proficiency with MS Office suite; experience with enterprise databases, market data tools and technology resources a plus
