POSITION SUMMARY
Dentons Canada is hiring a Manager, Profile & Client Development. You will be joining a vibrant, creative group of professionals who contribute to the business development efforts of the national firm. Reporting to the Senior Manager, Profile & Client Development, the Manager, Profile & Client Development works directly with the Office Managing Partner, local practice groups and select national practice and sector groups, with a focus on our National Venture Technology and Emerging Growth Group and Private Equity practice. This is strategic and hands-on executionary role to expand current and new client relationships to drive revenue through the development of short- and long-term business development plans and strategies and inspire lawyers to focus on profile and client development initiatives. The successful candidate must be based in Ottawa.
The Dentons Ottawa office is a client-focused and fast-paced environment with close to 100 members. Highly engaged within the Ottawa community and integrated with all of the Dentons offices across Canada and also globally on the wider Dentons platform, this dynamic office drives business with Canada-leading practices in venture technology and emerging growth companies, private equity, banking and commercial real estate, telecommunications and broadcasting, infrastructure, litigation and employment. This position is suited for an individual with strong business development acumen who wants to work with a team committed to the ongoing growth of not just Dentons Ottawa but the national Firm.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Support the office in various profile raising activities, including events and sponsorships, including identifying new opportunities in the market and negotiating sponsorship agreements
- Contribute to the development of practice and sector project plans and deliver on owned accountabilities for assigned practice and sector groups
- Prepare agendas and all required materials for practice and sector group meetings
- Facilitate the delivery of business planning for assigned groups; support in the execution of business development plan action items and key initiatives, including researching ideas and drafting materials; track, follow up and present on group and lawyer initiatives to keep priorities moving forward
- Develop creative and original content for social media, building on the unique Dentons brand identity
- Participate in conversations around directory submissions, prepare draft directory submissions for review and approval by accountable partners, project manage to ensure streamlined and efficient delivery
- Prepare client reports by gathering and compiling error-free information to help drive cross-selling conversations
- Work in partnership with the Events team to ensure the successful preparation and delivery of events
- Attending Firm and third-party organized events and meetings in connection with core practice and sector group activities
- Draft information packages and other client-pitch and proposal materials for assigned groups; supporting the development of more complex RFPs in partnership with Proposals team
- Demonstrate a willingness to understand the key clients and experience of assigned practice and sector groups, including interfacing with clients where necessary
- Support the enhancement of client lists for assigned practice and sector groups, working collaboratively with the CRM team
- Provide clear direction with appropriate context when liaising with tangential marketing teams, including Business Intelligence, Communications, Creative, CRM, Digital, Events, Proposals, and other Business Services
- Preparation/collection of business intelligence in connection with practice and sector project plans, including client meetings
- Assist with creating and monitoring annual BD budgets
- Update marketing collateral related to the practice, industry, or initiative, including web content, brochures and practice group descriptions
- Ability to work after hours is required, including with respect to attending events and responding to email and telephone communication
- Other duties as may be required
REQUIREMENTS
Experience, Skills and Market Knowledge:
- 5+ years of experience in marketing and or business development experience working in a professional services environment is preferred
- JD/LL.Ms encouraged to apply
- Solid business acumen
- Strong project manager
- Data-savvy and proficient at navigating data managing tools such as Power BI
- Knowledge of venture tech/startup sector as well as local Ottawa technology business environment, including key sectors and companies as well as supporting business organizations is an asset
- Experience with leveraging social media (including LinkedIn) and other digital channels
- Proven success providing end-to-end coordination, organization and management of business development initiatives with delivery to deadlines
- Must be proficient working with the entire Microsoft Office Suite, including, in particular, sophisticated knowledge of PowerPoint
