The Opportunity

We have a compelling opportunity for a governance/ compliance lawyer seeking to move inhouse into our General Counsel and Risk Department, based in our Sydney office.

The role will work as part of the global team and will be responsible for a range of compliance duties, with an initial focus on the assessment and management of conflicts of interest and company secretarial issues across the firm's practice. The role will also cover general commercial and professional responsibility matters as the business continues to grow.

Main features of this role will see the candidate perform conflicts of interest searches to determine impact or risk to the firm from both a commercial and legal view point. They will work closely with the firm locally and globally to streamline conflict processes and analyse information in the firm's conflict management system and other databases, as well as educating and training staff on conflicts matters and presenting all conflicts/ risk presentations across our Australian and PNG offices. The candidate will also assist the company secretary to ensure the firm’s compliance with its obligations as a public company, including maintaining the firm’s share register, drafting resolutions and advising on meeting requirements. They will also look at general commercial contracts, reviewing and drafting documents, ensuring that the firm's governance procedures are adhered to and minimising risk to the business, as well providing advice and assistance to the firm and its lawyers in relation to a range of regulatory issues, with a focus on professional responsibility.

This role would suit a junior to mid level lawyer (1-3 years pqe) with relevant corporate, commercial and/ or compliance or company secretarial experience that has worked in a professional services environment and has excellent research and analytical skills with a high level of attention to detail, looking to move out of private practice.
