We have a rare opportunity for an enthusiastic and driven Graduate to join our Sydney, General Counsel and Risk team on a 12-month maximum-term contract. This role will involve assisting the Senior Conflicts and Compliance Lawyer and General Counsel to advise the firm on conflicts of interest and compliance related matters.
The General Counsel & Risk Team supports Dentons and its lawyers to provide quality legal services in a manner that promotes profitability and reduces risk.
About the Role
- Performing and analysing conflict of interest searches to identify potential legal and commercial conflicts.
- Evaluating potential conflict issues from both a legal and commercial viewpoint and on a local, national, and international basis.
- Preparing clear and concise reports on conflicts issues and recommending responses.
- Providing staff training and assisting in raising awareness of conflicts clearance processes, risks and responses.
- Liaising with global Risk and Conflicts teams on cross-border conflict issues and global conflicts initiatives.
- Providing input on firm conflict policies and procedures, identifying and developing process improvements.
- Assisting the Senior Conflicts and Compliance Lawyer and General Counsel in responding to claims and potential claims against the firm (including insurance issues).
- Advise on risk issues in client retainers, panel agreements etc. as well as, practitioner compliance issues such as certification and CLE.
About You
- Completed or enrolled to complete the GDLP within the year.
- Experience in a risk or compliance environment – preferable but not essential.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Strong analytical skills and process oriented.
- Lateral thinker with the ability to use initiative to problem solve.
- Clear communicator, both written and verbal.
- Outstanding time management skills, with ability to multi-task and prioritise competing deadlines.
- Enthusiastic individual who has a proactive attitude.
To be considered for a position on the Law Graduate Program, you must expect to complete your law degree by the end of 2024 and be available to commence full time employment in early 2025. You will also consider yourself an ambitious, hardworking, enthusiastic professional who possesses an excellent academic record and strong interpersonal skills. Any relevant work experience gained throughout your degree is advantageous.
