About Dentons

Dentons is the world’s largest law firm. We’re 20,000+ people globally across 80+ countries including USA; Europe; India and Asia. We are a global polycentric firm which is expanding rapidly in an increasingly globalised legal industry.

About the Role

We have a compelling opportunity for a senior risk / compliance / governance lawyer seeking to move in-house into our General Counsel and Risk Department, ideally based in our Sydney office but may be based in any of our other Australian offices in Melbourne, Perth, Adelaide or Brisbane.

The role will report directly to our General Counsel & Company Secretary and act as her 2IC in the legal function. The Legal Risk & Compliance Manager will support the GC & CoSec in providing legal, risk and governance services to Dentons and its lawyers. You will provide advice on legal risk arising from Dentons’ contractual arrangements, professional indemnity and regulatory matters and corporate governance issues.

In this role, you will oversee Dentons' response to claims and complaints, working with insurers and external advisers, and supporting the business to identify and address risk issues. You will lead the review of Dentons' client terms and other contractual arrangements, identifying legal risk issues and assisting the business to manage its contractual obligations. You will provide practical guidance on professional obligations and broader legal risk issues and support the GC & CoSec on company secretarial and governance matters.

About You

This role would suit someone with experience in a law firm or other professional services Office of General Counsel, or a senior lawyer with relevant corporate, commercial, litigation and/or professional services experience who has excellent research and analytical skills. Exceptional communication and problem-solving skills, an ability to anticipate risks and develop solutions and a high level of attention to detail will help you succeed in this role.

You will work with a small team of risk and compliance professionals so it is critical that you can demonstrate strong leadership and mentorship skills. Dentons' in-house team is collaborative and supportive of each other’s ongoing learning and development.
