What is the role?

When your business is powered by invention, putting your ideas into action is paramount. Equally important is safeguarding those ideas. We are on the hunt for a Patent Attorney to join our successful Patent Attorney Team

You will be responsible for:

  • Advising clients in relation to patent portfolio management, infringement, and patentability issues, assisting in patent oppositions and/or patent litigation.
  • Carrying out searching, drafting patent applications, opinions on patentability and validity, and prosecution of patent applications both in Australia and New Zealand, and overseas applications.
  • Preparing reports (patentability and freedom to operate) for a range of clients within Australia, New Zealand, and overseas.
  • Assisting in contentious patent matters such as re-examination and patent oppositions.
  • Collaborating across the global firm in relation to patent related matters
  • Managing and building client relationships.

 

What we’re looking for:

 

You will be someone who has a flexible ‘can do’ attitude, self-motivated, an analytical thinker and problem solver.

 

  • A strong technical knowledge of intellectual property principles in Australia and New Zealand, and sound knowledge of intellectual property principles for key overseas jurisdictions (e.g. United States and Europe).
  • Strong research and reasoning skills.
  • Technical qualifications and outstanding technical knowledge in any one or more of computer science, computer engineering, software engineering, artificial intelligence, telecommunication, electrical, electronic, mechatronic, and physics.
  • Strong oral and written communication ability.
  • Experience in a broad range of patent attorney work including drafting of patent specifications, local and foreign patent prosecution, opposition work, and providing infringement and validity opinions.
  • Registered Trans-Tasman Patent Attorney.
