ROLE
Dentons is seeking a dynamic and detailed-oriented Communications Specialist to join our Communications & Profile team. This role plays an important part in delivering engaging, clear and strategic internal communications that connect our people to Firm priorities, initiatives and culture.
The Communications Specialist will primarily support the Firm’s internal communications function, including managing and evolving key internal channels such as the Canada Portal (intranet) and internal newsletters. The successful candidate will help drive content planning, execution and continuous improvement of these channels, with a focus on increasing engagement and positioning the Portal as the Firm’s primary source of news and information.
Reporting to the Director, Profile & Communications, working closely with the Internal Communications Manager and collaborating across business services and practice groups, this role combines strong writing, content management and stakeholder coordination skills with experience in digital communications and employee engagement.
As part of the broader Communications & Profile team, the Specialist will also contribute to select external and profile-building initiatives as needed.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Draft, edit and publish high-quality internal communications content, including intranet articles, leadership messages, newsletters, presentations and internal updates.
- Serve as the primary support resource for the Canada Portal (Sharepoint intranet site), including content publishing, page updates, user experience improvements and ongoing content governance.
- Contribute to the development and execution of the Canada Portal strategy, supporting initiatives that drive awareness, engagement and adoption across the Firm.
- Partner with stakeholders across business services and practice groups to develop clear, engaging and timely internal communications.
- Support the planning and production of internal and client-facing newsletters, including content coordination, editing and publication.
- Assist the Internal Communications Manager in delivering internal programs, campaigns and employee engagement initiatives.
- Maintain internal communications calendars, trackers and reporting dashboards to support planning, alignment and performance measurement.
- Monitor and report on internal communications performance metrics and recommend opportunities for continuous improvement.
- Collaborate with members of the Communications & Profile team to support broader communications initiatives, including social media, thought leadership and Firm profile activities, as needed.
REQUIREMENTS
- Two (2) to three (3) years of experience in internal or external communications or a similar role. Experience in a law firm or professional services environment is considered an asset.
- Post-secondary degree or diploma in communications, marketing or business administration and/or equivalent combination of education/work experience.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with an ability to effectively communicate with individuals at all levels of the organization and present information in an impactful and visual manner, and full command of the English language, including grammar, punctuation and spelling.
- Strong attention to detail, drafting/writing, copy-editing and proof-reading and critical thinking skills, with ability to anticipate concerns or issues proactively.
- Ability to manage confidential and/or sensitive information, demonstrating adherence to and a commitment to privacy and ethical conduct.
- Superior organizational and project management skills—ability to multi-task; prioritize and organize deliverables; balance competing priorities to meet deadlines, work under pressure; and work with multifaceted, complex projects in a dynamic, fast-paced and client-focused environment.
- Professional, self-motivated, creative, enthusiastic and results-driven team-player who can work independently with little instruction or supervision and/or collaboratively with local, national, and global multidisciplinary teams, with strong emotional intelligence.
- Comfort working with digital platforms such as intranet or content management systems (e.g., SharePoint), and an openness to experimenting with new tools, automation and AI-enabled solutions to improve communications effectiveness.
- Basic business and/or financial acumen considered an asset.
- Bilingualism (English/French) an asset, but not required.
- Strong competency in Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint, and SharePoint.
We thank all applicants for their interest, however, only those selected for an interview will be contacted.
