POSITION SUMMARY
The Senior Pricing and Legal Project Management Specialist is a new role created to build out the firm's pricing capability. The Senior Pricing and Legal Project Management Specialist will report to the Canada Director, Pricing & Legal Project Management, supporting partners across the full pricing lifecycle: scoping and pricing new and ongoing matters, developing matter budgets and Alternative Fee Arrangements (“AFAs”), assisting with the pricing aspects of pitches and proposals, monitoring budget-to-actuals and matter profitability for ongoing matters and portfolios of work, and developing pricing-related reporting for firm leadership.
This is a high-visibility role with direct exposure to partners and firm leadership. It offers significant scope to shape how the Firm approaches pricing across all practice areas and best suits someone with a strong interest in the business of law and the evolving market dynamics of the legal industry.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Pricing Strategy, Pitches, RFPs, and Panel Submissions
• Supporting ongoing adherence to the Firm's pricing methodology, policies, and governance
• Set guidance on hourly rates, AFAs, and discounting protocols
• Model AFA scenarios (hourly, fixed, capped, blended, success-based, retainer) and assist with the pricing response to RFPs, panel submissions, and significant client proposals
• Maintain an internal pricing knowledge base and library of precedent fee structures, and scoping and budgeting templates for common matter types
• Brief partners ahead of pricing negotiations and attend client meetings where required
Partner Support and Training
• Act as a trusted advisor to partners on pricing, scoping, and budget management
• Deliver training and coaching to lawyers on commercial pricing concepts
• Support lawyers in client conversations on pricing-related matters
AFA Design and Monitoring
• Scope, design, and price AFAs across all practice groups
• Build budgets, scoping and assumption details, staffing plans, and tracking tools for different fee arrangements
• Monitor AFA performance and budget-to-actuals to flag variances proactively
• Conduct post-matter reviews and feed lessons learned back into pricing methodology
Client and Procurement Engagement
• Serve as the Firm's commercial counterpart to client procurement and legal operations teams
• Respond to client requests for rate cards, budgets, accruals, and reporting
• Build relationships with key client contacts in procurement and legal operations
Analytics and Reporting
• Support the sourcing, building or maintenance of matter/client portfolio dashboards covering realization, leverage, matter profitability, and AFA performance
• Provide reporting to the firm’s National Management Committee and Practice Group Leaders
• Conduct ad hoc analysis to support partner decision-making on pricing, scoping, and staffing
• Identify trends and opportunities for improvement in firm-wide pricing performance
QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum 3-5 years of experience in legal pricing, legal finance, legal operations, professional services pricing, or a related commercial role
- Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, business, economics, mathematics, or a related discipline
- Understanding of law firm economics, including realization, leverage, and matter profitability concepts.
- Demonstrated experience designing and managing budgets and AFAs in a law firm or in-house legal environment
- Strong financial modelling and analytical skills, with advanced Excel proficiency
- Experience working with legal practice management systems (e.g. Elite 3E, Intapp, Aderant, Fulcrum SAP, etc.)
and BI tools (e.g. Power BI)
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex commercial concepts clearly to partners and clients
- Track record of influencing senior stakeholders without direct authority
Preferred Qualifications
• CPA, CFA, MBA, or equivalent professional designation
• Working knowledge of French considered an asset
• Familiarity with legal project management methodologies
• Prior client-facing experience with corporate procurement, legal operations, or in-house counsel teams
• SQL or other data query skills.

The target salary range for this position is $95,000 – $112,000, commensurate with the successful candidate’s skills, experience, and qualifications.
