POSITION SUMMARY

This is a 6 month contract opportunity for an existing vacancy.

We are seeking a Senior Manager, Pricing Data & AI Enablement for a 6-month contract (with an option to mutually extend) to strengthen the quality, structure and usability of our historical matter data, and to improve the firm's ability to price legal work using reliable, evidence-based insights.

Working within the Pricing & Legal Project Management function, this role will lead a focused initiative to identify, clean, enrich and structure matter data using a combination of artificial intelligence, automation and traditional data-quality techniques.

The successful candidate will work at the intersection of pricing, legal operations, data and AI, transforming historical matter information into a more reliable dataset that supports pricing decisions, matter scoping, benchmarking, budgeting and future analytical capabilities.

This is a hands-on role. The successful candidate should be equally comfortable understanding the business problem, working directly with large datasets, applying AI-enabled tools and collaborating with stakeholders to validate results.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Matter Data Improvement

  • Assess the quality, completeness and consistency of historical matter data across relevant firm systems.
  • Identify gaps and inconsistencies that limit the firm's ability to analyze comparable matters and develop reliable pricing benchmarks.
  • Develop and execute a structured approach to cleaning, normalizing and enriching historical matter data.
  • Establish consistent matter classifications, attributes and taxonomies that improve the identification of comparable matters.
  • Work with the Pricing & Legal Project Management team to determine which matter characteristics matter most for pricing and analysis.
  • Develop processes for identifying and resolving duplicate, incomplete, anomalous or incorrectly classified data.

AI & Automation

  • Identify opportunities to use generative AI, machine learning and automation to accelerate the classification and enrichment of matter data.
  • Use AI-enabled techniques to extract structured information from unstructured matter descriptions and other available sources.
  • Develop repeatable workflows for matter categorization, data enrichment and quality assurance.
  • Design appropriate human-validation processes to ensure AI-generated classifications and outputs are accurate and reliable.
  • Evaluate AI tools and approaches based on accuracy, scalability, security and practical business value.
  • Document methodologies, prompts, rules and validation processes so successful approaches can be replicated after the contract concludes.

Pricing & Analytics Enablement

  • Partner closely with Pricing & Legal Project Management to translate pricing requirements into usable data structures.
  • Improve the firm's ability to identify relevant historical matters when pricing new engagements.
  • Support the development of matter benchmarks, including fees, hours, staffing, leverage and other relevant pricing metrics.
  • Help establish datasets that can support future pricing models, budgeting tools and matter profitability analytics.
  • Identify patterns in historical matters that provide useful insight into matter cost, staffing and delivery.
  • Support the creation of a foundation for AI-assisted matter scoping and pricing.

Data Governance & Sustainability

  • Recommend standards for matter data capture that improve the quality of information collected going forward.
  • Develop practical controls and validation rules that reduce future data-quality issues.
  • Document data definitions, taxonomies and transformation logic.
  • Work with Finance, Technology, Innovation and other stakeholders to ensure solutions align with the firm's broader data architecture and governance requirements.
  • Develop a transition plan so processes established during the engagement can be sustained by the firm.

REQUIREMENTS

  • 5+ years of experience in data analytics, data management, legal operations, financial analytics, pricing, business intelligence or a related field.
  • Demonstrated experience cleaning, transforming and working with complex enterprise datasets.
  • Strong practical experience using AI, generative AI or machine-learning tools to solve business problems.
  • Experience developing repeatable AI-enabled workflows rather than relying exclusively on manual data remediation.
  • Strong proficiency with data-analysis tools such as SQL, Python, Power BI, Alteryx or similar technologies.
  • Experience with APIs, data transformation tools or automation platforms (an asset).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
  • The ability to translate business requirements into structured data and analytical solutions.
  • Excellent attention to detail and a strong understanding of data validation and quality assurance.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Experience within a law firm, professional services organization or other matter/project-based business would be a significant asset, particularly experience with legal financial, time-entry, billing or matter-management data.

Preferred Qualifications

•           CPA, CFA, MBA, or equivalent professional designation

•           Working knowledge of French considered an asset

•           Familiarity with legal project management methodologies

•           Prior client-facing experience with corporate procurement, legal operations, or in-house counsel teams

•           SQL or other data query skills.

We thank all applicants for their interest, however, only those selected for an interview will be contacted.
