Manager, Business Development

Dentons US LLP is currently recruiting for a Business Development Manager to be resident in our Washington, DC, New York, Chicago, or Dallas office. This is for our Intellectual Property and Technology practice, which also includes sectors such as media, manufacturing and retail. This position works with practice and sector leaders to create and implement business development and marketing strategies to generate new client relationships, expand current client relationships, and enhance the brand recognition of these services in the US. This is an exciting and challenging opportunity to market a growing practice at one of the largest global law firms.

• Work with partners and professionals to create, prepare and deliver proposals/pitches for new business development, including virtual, written and in-person opportunities. Provide coaching and project management throughout process to deliver successful outcomes 
• Develop and implement strategic initiatives with the practice leadership and other key partners and professionals 
• Oversee the drafting and submission of rankings and directories submissions
• Conduct business development market analysis, industry and competitive intelligence research reports for business development opportunities. Investigate and develop information to advise attorneys on business development and relationship-building initiatives
• Work with the attorneys to identify, develop, prepare and support marketing initiatives for speaking engagements, thought leadership and other events, including the production of PowerPoint and other types of presentations and exhibits
• Actively participate in practice group meetings; report regularly to each practice on their initiatives and results
• Manage an annual marketing and business development practice budget. Monitor and track MBD expenditures for expense management purposes
• Assist with the onboarding of new laterals to best position them to be successful 
• Supervise the management of client and prospect mailing lists
• Other duties as assigned to fully meet the requirements of the position


Experience & Qualifications  
• Successful candidates will have 5+ years’ experience planning, executing and evaluating the ROI of all BD initiatives to attract, retain and expand a loyal client base
• Experience supporting IP within the legal industry preferred 
• Highly motivated self-starter who is able to handle a variety of projects that require tight deadlines
• Ability to deal with ambiguity and work independently  
• Proficient at issue-spotting, and possess a strong intellectual curiosity about the business of law and intellectual property in general 
• Highly organized and possess strong creative abilities and excellent communication skills, as well as the ability to think strategically and analytically 
• Able to work with higher levels of management in the firm and work well as part of a team
