The Role

We are growing — and this is a standout opportunity for a Senior Employment Lawyer to join a specialist team at the centre of Employment Tribunal litigation and HR advisory.

This is not a traditional employment role — and we are not looking for a traditional employment lawyer. We are looking for someone who wants to help redefine how employment litigation is delivered: someone excited by building smarter, more scalable and technology-enabled ways of working, while maintaining exceptional client service and legal quality.

You will work closely with the Helix management team and Employment and Pension Partners to help shape the strategic direction of the litigation team and oversee delivery across a significant client portfolio. With visibility across the wider practice, you will play a central role in driving performance, evolving delivery models and challenging conventional approaches to high-volume litigation work.

While the role is not focused on personally running claims day to day, you will need the experience and confidence to supervise complex tribunal matters, guide teams through challenging legal and strategic issues and act as a senior escalation point for clients and colleagues alike.

This is a leadership role for someone who enjoys thinking beyond the traditional law firm model — someone who is energised by innovation, operational excellence and finding better ways to deliver legal services at scale. You will work with clients, lawyers and legal operations team members to help embed AI and other technologies into the way we deliver our services.

You will also work closely with Dentons’ Band 1 Employment team, combining top-tier legal expertise with a more modern, commercial and scalable approach to litigation. You would not be expected to work on transactional or international matters as part of your day-to-day role.

The work is fast-paced, high-profile and genuinely impactful, offering the opportunity to help shape not just a team, but the future direction of employment litigation delivery within a global law firm.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, support and help to grow a team of employment lawyers delivering high-quality employment litigation services.
  • Supervise and develop junior team members, maintaining high standards, consistency and best practice.
  • Build strong client relationships and act as a trusted adviser to key stakeholders.
  • Support in driving innovative and technology-enabled ways of working, including the use of AI and process improvements.
  • Contribute to a collaborative, high-performing and supportive team culture.
  • Provide strong technical expertise, sound judgement and leadership across the team.

Required Experience and Skills

  • Qualified lawyer with 8+ PQE (or equivalent).
  • Strong academic background, including a degree or equivalent.
  • Solid experience in employment law, with a strong grounding in redundancy, unfair dismissal and discrimination matters.
  • Strong Employment Tribunal experience, including managing complex claims.
  • Experience managing multiple client stakeholders and building strong, trusted relationships across a diverse client base.
  • Experience in using AI and other technology to deliver services in a new way – or an ambition to get involved in doing so.
  • Experience in advising on day to day HR issues, including grievance matters and investigations.  This would also include advising on Settlement Agreements (acting for employers).
  • Experience supervising and developing junior lawyers, paralegals or trainees.
  • Experience managing high-volume litigation and running managed legal services would be advantageous.
  • Excellent drafting skills and attention to detail.
  • Clear and confident communication skills, both written and verbal.

Personal Attributes

  • A strong commitment to delivering exceptional client service and building lasting client relationships.
  • Strong leadership skills, with the ability to motivate, support and develop others.
  • Excellent problem-solving ability and sound commercial judgement.
  • Someone who embraces innovation and new ways of working.
  • Proactive, with the confidence to take ownership and influence outcomes.
  • Collaborative, with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build credibility with clients and colleagues.
  • Highly organised, with the ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • A methodical, detail-focused approach, with a strong emphasis on quality and consistency.
